Who this covers
This policy is published by The Tribe Maker, LLC (“we”, “us”). It covers Doorstep Local, the neighborhood business directories on doorsteplocal.com, and every directory that runs on its own domain. The same policy applies on each of those sites.
Doorstep Local is a set of neighborhood directories. Businesses can buy a member listing, run ads, join a presale while a directory is launching, and visitors can send donations, quote requests, and contact messages.
Information we collect
What we store depends on what you do on the site.
- Account. Name, email, and a password. The password is stored as a hash, not as the password you typed. An account can also have a username and a role. Signing in uses email, or a username for an admin, plus the password.
- Business listing. The profile you publish: business name, tagline, description, phone, email, website, street address, city, state, ZIP code, hours, services, offers, social links, logo, photos, and video link.
- Ads. Headline, description, image or HTML creative, destination URL, call-to-action label, the neighborhoods you select, and whether the ad is a one-time run or a monthly run.
- Payments. Stripe processes the card on our pages. We store the Stripe customer id, and the subscription, checkout, or payment ids Stripe returns. When Stripe tells us the card on file, we can show the brand and last four digits. We do not store the full card number.
- Donations. First name, last name, email, amount in dollars, and employer and occupation if you enter them. A donation has to be at least $1.
- Launch and presale. First name, last name, email, phone, business name, and category. That signup is saved as a contact message. A presale also creates a Stripe customer for the monthly charge.
- Other forms. Contact messages, quote requests (name, email, phone, message), volunteer interest, testimonials you submit, and a newsletter email if you subscribe.
- Password reset. A reset link token tied to your email. It expires after one hour and replaces any older token for that address.
How we use it
We use this information to run the directories, show listings and ads, take payments, send the emails the product sends, and keep accounts secure. Those emails go out through SendGrid when a SendGrid key is configured, from the configured from-address (the code default is [email protected]). They include welcome mail, password reset, payment problems, membership cancellation, ad approval and rejection, launch signup confirmation, and notices to the team about contact forms, donations, volunteers, and leads.
Quote requests are shown to the member whose listing received them. Listing pages can record a view count on our server so a member can see how many people opened the profile.
Cookies and similar storage
Signing in sets a session cookie. On HTTPS the cookie name is __Secure-authjs.session-token. On local HTTP it is authjs.session-token. It holds the signed-in session. We do not set our own analytics cookie.
While a card payment is confirming, the page stores the payment status address in the browser’s session storage under the key doorstep-onsite-payment, and removes it after Stripe confirms. That is session storage, not a cookie.
Stripe’s payment form is loaded from Stripe and can use cookies to complete the payment. If a directory admin has saved a Google Analytics id, that directory loads Google Analytics, which can set its own cookies. Directories without that id do not load it. We do not load a separate product-analytics tool.
Some forms are rate-limited by IP address in memory on the server. That limit is not a cookie and is not stored as an account field.
Payments
Memberships, extra neighborhoods, ads, donations, and presales are charged by Stripe in US dollars. You enter the card on our page. One-time charges turn on Stripe’s automatic payment methods, so Stripe may also offer a method enabled on the Stripe account. The pages themselves are built as card checkout. A card statement for those charges uses a Doorstep suffix set in the payment code.
A primary membership is $29 per month. Each extra neighborhood is $25 per month. Those are the prices in the code. Retired stored amounts of $15 for a primary listing, or $5 or $7 for an extra neighborhood, are not charged. If a directory stores some other amount, checkout uses that stored amount, and the price is shown before you pay.
Sharing
We share data with the services that run the product: Stripe for cards and subscriptions, and SendGrid for email. Listings, ads, and approved testimonials are shown publicly on the directory you joined. We do not sell personal information.
Deleting an account
Deleting an account cancels that account’s membership subscriptions in Stripe, then deletes the user. Listings tied to the user are removed with the account. That delete does not, by itself, refund a charge already collected.
