The service
These terms are between you and The Tribe Maker, LLC (“we”, “us”). They cover Doorstep Local on doorsteplocal.com and on every neighborhood directory domain. Creating an account, buying a listing, buying an ad, donating, or joining a presale means you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy.
Doorstep Local publishes neighborhood directories. A member listing, an ad, a donation, and a launch presale are separate products. The price you pay is the price shown on the page before Stripe confirms the card.
Accounts
An account needs a name, a valid email, and a password of at least 8 characters. You are responsible for activity under that account. We may refuse a signup that fails those checks. Password reset emails expire after one hour.
Memberships
A primary listing is a monthly subscription at $29 per month. Each extra neighborhood is its own monthly subscription at $25 per month. Those are the prices in the code. Retired stored amounts of $15 for a primary listing, or $5 or $7 for an extra neighborhood, are not charged. Any other amount stored on that directory is the amount checkout uses, and it is shown before you pay.
Memberships renew automatically each month and charge the card on file until you cancel that neighborhood’s subscription. A promo code on a primary membership can start a free trial before the first paid month. The trial length is that code’s free months times 30 days. The usual code length is 3 months. You still save a card for the trial. If the trial ends and Stripe has no payment method, that subscription is set to cancel.
Canceling a membership is per neighborhood. In billing, you confirm the cancel. We then cancel that Stripe subscription immediately, mark the subscription canceled, suspend the listing in that directory, and email you. The cancel does not prorate the current month and does not refund it. Other neighborhoods on the same account stay in place until they are canceled too. Deleting the account cancels its membership subscriptions and deletes the account and its listings. That delete does not refund a charge already collected.
Advertising
Ads are billed per neighborhood. Members pay that directory’s member rate. Everyone else pays the member rate times that directory’s non-member multiplier. A new directory defaults to $25 per month for members and a multiplier of 1.2 ($30 per month). The amount on the payment page is the amount charged. You do not need a membership to buy an ad.
A run of one period is a one-time charge. A run of more than one month, up to 12, is a monthly Stripe subscription that stops at the end of the period you bought. An ad stays a draft until Stripe confirms payment, then it goes to review. It does not run until it is approved. A coupon can place an ad in review without a card charge when the code says so.
Ad cancellation and refunds
Canceling an ad that is not live yet gives a full refund. That includes an ad in review, and an ad that is approved but has not started. In the product, “not live” means the ad has not been served, has no first-live time, and is not active on a start day that has already arrived. The cancel dialog for that ad says you will get a full refund.
If a payment is still processing when you cancel an ad that never went live, and the payment later goes through, it is refunded in full automatically.
Once an ad is live, there is no refund. Before you cancel a live ad, a warning says the payment is not refunded. You can keep the ad up until the current period ends, which stops renewal and does not refund the current period, or stop it now, which takes the ad down immediately and does not refund it.
If an admin rejects a paid ad that never went live, the payment is refunded in full automatically. That reject uses the same cancel as an owner cancel before the ad is live.
If an admin rejects a live recurring ad, its subscription is canceled immediately, with no proration and no refund for the current period. Rejecting a live one-time ad rejects the ad and does not refund it.
Refunds go back through Stripe to the card that paid. If Stripe cannot refund that card, the ad stays marked so the refund is still owed.
Donations
A donation is a one-time Stripe charge of the dollar amount you enter, at least $1. It is recorded when Stripe confirms it. The donation form can also take an employer and an occupation. The product does not automatically refund a completed donation.
Presales
A neighborhood in launch mode can offer a presale. The presale is a monthly Stripe subscription at the price shown on that page. If the directory has no presale price stored, the page shows $10 per month. The charge uses that directory’s Stripe price and renews each month until the subscription is canceled. The app does not include a separate presale refund. The same page can offer a founding-member option that collects no card. That option’s page says the 90-day free period begins on the official launch date.
Your content and acceptable use
Listings, photos, offers, testimonials, and ads are your content. You keep ownership. You give us permission to display that content on the directories you choose, including the text, photos, and ad creative needed to run the listing or ad.
You will only submit content you have the right to publish. It must be lawful and not misleading. Do not submit content that infringes someone else’s rights, or that is fraudulent, abusive, or unrelated spam. Ads can be rejected. The reject reason when none is typed is “Does not meet guidelines.” Testimonials stay pending until they are reviewed. We can suspend a listing, including when its membership is canceled.
Payments
Memberships, extra neighborhoods, ads, donations, and presales are charged by Stripe on our pages, in US dollars. You enter the card on our page. One-time charges turn on Stripe’s automatic payment methods, so Stripe may also offer a method enabled on the Stripe account. We do not store the full card number. Subscriptions for memberships, extra neighborhoods, recurring ads, and presales renew automatically and charge the card on file until they are canceled, or until a fixed ad run reaches its end. The card statement uses a Doorstep suffix.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts of Denton County.
